Town centre’s entertainment space unveiled
The regeneration of part of a town centre has been officially unveiled.
The Triangle, in Yeovil, Somerset, is now home to an amphitheatre-style entertainment space, water feature, art installations and a large screen.
The work is part of a major £24m overhaul of the Somerset town called Yeovil Refresh, external.
Mike Rigby from Somerset Council, said he hoped it will be “an inspiring, relaxing and exciting” space, making Yeovil a “thriving place to live, work and visit”.
The redevelopment includes a raised stage with a large screen for live performances and screened events.
The entertainment space has seating for around 100 people.
Art installations were co-created with community groups during the Covid pandemic.
“The regeneration of The Triangle has been a long time coming and we thank local businesses for their patience while works have been under way,” said Mr Rigby, the council’s lead member for economic development, planning and assets.
“It has been vital that we get this space right”.
He said it is a “significant improvement” on what was there before and the intention was for it “to give Yeovil a new lease of life”.
The space was partly designed around the needs highlighted by residents during several consultations.
Other phases of the Yeovil Refresh programme include redeveloping the area known as Glovers Walk, improving road systems and walkways for all users.
A programme of events is planned for The Triangle this summer to help bring people together and create a focal point for the town.
