Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspect struck a female officer across the face during an attempt to flee.

Avon and Somerset Police performed a vehicle stop outside the village hall on Meadow Lane in Walton, Somerset, at around 17:20 GMT on 17 January.

A male passenger made off on foot but was pursued by the officer. He then turned and struck her, causing her to fall and hit her head. Her injuries required hospital treatment.

The suspect fled the scene and is described as white, approximately 6ft tall, of medium build, and thought to be in his late 30s.

Police say he was wearing a t-shirt, a dark hooded zip-up top, and a fluorescent yellow tabard.

Two men, aged 35 and 36, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of being involved in the supply of cocaine.

They have since been released under investigation.
