Somerset have signed Australia all-rounder Amanda-Jade Wellington for the 2025 season.

The 27-year-old leg-spinner played for Western Storm last year taking 27 wickets and scoring over 400 runs in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

She has played for Australia 23 times across all three formats of the game, taking 30 wickets.

Wellington, who has played for Southern Brave, Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles in The Hundred and Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash, has a deal at Taunton that will run from 11 April to 22 September.

“I really enjoyed my time in the region last year and I can’t wait to be a part of Somerset’s first ever professional women’s team,” she told the club website.

“I know a lot of the players and staff from my time with Storm and there is a genuine bond within the group.

“We have the chance to put down a marker and set the standards for Somerset Women this summer. That’s a very special responsibility and I can’t wait to get started.”

Somerset women head coach Trevor Griffin added: “She’s competitive, positive, determined and a real fighter who never gives up. She’ll be an incredible asset to the squad.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with her previously and have seen at first-hand how she uses her experience of playing at the top level around the world to support and encourage her fellow players.

“A lot of our squad are at the beginning of their career and having Wello next to them in the dressing room and on the pitch is a huge asset, both to them individually and to the squad as a whole.”
