A council-owned leisure centre closed for several months has reopened following a £2.2m refurbishment.
Somerset Council said Tor Sports and Leisure in Glastonbury has been “transformed” into a modern community sports and leisure hub.
Councillor Federica Smith Roberts said: “The former Tor Sports & Leisure site has long needed enhancement, and the state of the building had previously hindered its potential.”
Money for the refurbishment came from the Glastonbury Town Deal, which aims to grow the local economy and improve facilities.
The centre now has a brand-new state-of-the-art gym, a newly refurbished bar and meeting and event rooms.
The council hopes it will be used by sports clubs and community groups.
Lynne Sedgmore, chair of the Glastonbury Town Deal Board said: “We are extremely proud to see the first Glastonbury Town Deal project completed and look forward to the positive impacts it will have on our community.”
The council has now handed the centre over to its tenant, leisure operator Fusion Lifestyle, and a grand opening will take place in March.
