A woman is urging people in a Somerset town to attend the funeral of a “kind-hearted and generous man”.

Brian King, 83, a well-known figure in Taunton, passed away peacefully at Musgrove Park Hospital, on 25 September.

Izzi Stockton, who owns a bridal shop in the town, posted a message on Facebook asking people to pay their respects at his funeral.

The service will be held at Taunton Crematorium on Wednesday, 23 October at 12:40 BST.

Izzi Stockton says she first met Brian King nine years ago and described him as “a very funny, very sweet and kind man.”

Ms Stockton added: “He would always pop along to the shop for a chat and he would bring a cake or a pack of biscuits.”

She said Mr King would often be seen inside shops in the town, chatting to staff and giving them items he bought in charity shops.

Ms Stockton said she hopes lots of people attend the service.

“The more the merrier. He didn’t want very much so it’s a simple service,” she added.
