Witness appeal after serious sexual assault in Taunton

Police have released CCTV footage in a bid to track down possible witnesses to a rape over the summer.

A woman was attacked in South Street in Taunton, Somerset, at 00:15 BST on 8 August after being beckoned over to a vehicle by two unknown men.

She was forced into the vehicle where she was raped, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Investigators are keen to speak to people walking dogs in the area at the time, including one who gave the victim directions after she escaped the vehicle.

Four people were picked up on CCTV – two people with a dog, and two walking a smaller dog.

The suspects are described as both being of mixed heritage, approximately 6ft tall and in their late 30s.

One was of large build with black hair and a moustache, and wearing a red polo shirt, a silver chain and with a tattoo on the back of his neck.

The second suspect is described as being of slim build with black hair, several piercings and no facial hair.

They were thought to be driving a small, dark car, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Inspector Jonathan Eamer said: “We understand this can be a very alarming and distressing incident in the local community but we believe this to be an isolated incident with no further reports of this nature.

“We are supporting the victim during this time and commend her for her bravery in coming forward.”

Investigators are also appealing to anyone who was driving or lives on South Street who may have relevant dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage to contact them.
