Three men were taken to hospital after a fight yesterday afternoon

Police are to carry out “high-visibility patrols” after three men were injured in a fight.

Avon and Somerset Police said a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray on Sunday after armed officers were called to Beckery Old Road, Glastonbury, shortly before 17:30 BST.

The men were taken to hospital with injuries consistent with being struck by a blunt object, the force said.

One of them remains in hospital with a potentially serious head injury.

The other two have injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing

Avon and Somerset Police’s Ch Insp Andy Pritchard confirmed the arrested man remains in custody.

“We wish to reassure the public we believed this to be an isolated incident,” he said. “However, the local neighbourhood teams will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area over the coming days to provide additional reassurance,” he added.

The National Police Air Service helicopter was also sent to the scene on Sunday.
