  • just OK

I’ve only downloaded the first episode but there’s nothing in here for anyone who has read anything on this conflict - disappointing as he’s a great storyteller & if he moved just a little faster he could be superb with this subject
  • Great series, not for the faint of heart!

Part One covering the conflict between the Germans and the Soviet Union in the Second World War. Dan gives an introduction to the subject and discusses the causes and opening moves of Operation Barbarossa.
  • Just brilliant

From the start, this is an electrifying account. It's the story of the almighty battle between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union - WW2's Eastern Front. If you don't know this story (and you should) then you won't find a better way of becoming acquainted with it. Even if you are very familiar with it you should listen to this series. Dan Carlin brings the titanic fight between Hitler's Wehrmacht and Stalin's Red Army to life in a way I've never come across before. it's beautifully researched (Carlin obviously has a great knowledge and love for his subject), the pacing and flow never lets up, and it is superbly delivered. I've returned to it again and again and get something new out of it every time. If anything parts 2 and 3 are even better, but I can't give them 6 stars so 5 will have to do. A truly great series.
